Tekken Nation's Review of Tekken 6 !

Extras

Tekken has always been famous for its extras! The good news is that they all make a return; Time Attack, Team Battle, survival mode, Arcade, Ghost etc. Although they are old modes I still enjoy them till this very day. I will now go through the new or significantly different modes briefly and touch upon the story;

Scenario Campaign Mode:

I must admit at first I thought this was a brilliant mode. I enjoyed the previous Tekken Force modes, and I thought they were a good addition. Tekken Force mode has basically returned again with a story based around new comer Lars and Alisa. Unfortunately after playing a few levels I felt extremely bored. It was fun at first, but after a while It felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again, the levels became tedious and I only started playing it to earn big money so I could customize my characters. The targeting system is frustrating and I just laughed out loud at the usage of flamethrowers/ machine guns and the ability to regenerate your fallen partner, what is this Gears of War?

The story in it is about Lars, who loses his memory, and finds a woman (Alisa) that tries to help him get it back, while avoiding those who try to assassinate him. Gee does this sound familiar? Namco can’t possibly be copying of blockbuster movie; Bourne Identity, can they?

Anyway, the cut scenes are done pretty well I guess, but I found the majority of them really boring. The reason why I feel they were this way is because , I think , that the majority of us don’t really care about the main characters in it. I think it was far too premature to have a story based on two new characters. I fell asleep when the cut scenes were on Lars and Alisa. In fact I was on really interested on the scenes that contained the characters I were familiar with; Heihachi, Nina, lee etc  In my opinion it would have made more sense to have a favourite like Kazuya or Jin as the star role. I guarantee you most of us would have been more interested, if say the plot, was based on Kazuya’s life throughout all the Tekken games. We could have had interesting cut scenes like; what happened when he met Jun Kazama, what he was doing during Tekken 3, how he became the head of G Cooperation etc

As a whole SC is a defiant improvement from Devil within. I also feel it had some nice ideas, and would like to see it return as just an “additional mode” and nothing more, with a good story based after a fan favourite.

Online Mode:

Oh dear oh dear, this was possibly the most mode everyone was looking forward to, and in short; it’s a disaster. A lot of us were hyped, whether rightly so or wrongly so, for this mode. The lag and frames on this game is incredibly worse than that of DRO.

Online play in gaming is becoming extremely crucial; just ask the Halo fans what made the series so popular. SF4 proved that we could have a great online mode; Namco proved that they simply just cannot be bothered with it. I’m not just saying this because of the lag etc, well I am, but also because of the lack of polish it has. Biggest problem being is that you cannot choose who you want to fight in a ranked match, thus; you ‘re going to be pitted against anyone living in, any of the four corners of the world, so there is no chance in trying to avoid those with bad connections.

I could go on and on about how bad online is bad; but I would go on forever. Just hope Namco has a patch in the making.

Arena Mode:

This was supposed to be the mode that replaces Story Mode, featured in Tekken 5 and 4. Yea a mode, which contains; 4 stages no interludes and a Boss who belongs to Mortal Kombat. Let’s just move on shall we...
