Tekken Nation's Review of Tekken 6 !
Introduction
Ok first I’m going to have to warn you from now; if you’re the type that gets sensitive when Tekken is criticised then I advise you to stop reading on the count of three, because there is going to be some criticism in this review;
1...2...3!
Those of you who have decided to stay, you are more than welcome to question Tekken Nation’s review, and you could do so by clicking on this link, which will send you straight to the required thread on our forum.
I am huge Tekken fan; I’ve grown up with the series so I understand as a fan’s point of view and not just some random gamer. Now that I have all that out of the way, please sit back and enjoy the review!
Core
Gameplay
This is obviously the most important part of a Tekken game or any game in fact. The game play itself does differ from its procedure, the most notable differences are the; bound and the rage systems, which I will be briefly touch upon.
Bound systems are activated when a fighter uses a specific move that makes his/her opponents bounce slightly, giving you the opportunity to extend your juggles.
Rage is activated, when your life bar is close to the end. Your life bar will start glowing red, making the effect of your strikes significantly more punishable.
If I were to quickly review the game play I would say; it is fun, heck it’s a Tekken game! But there are some noticeable flaws. First and for most, the bound system makes juggles in this game ridiculously long. Some have already complained in the past, although they were the minority, that Tekken 5’s were long enough, but this simply takes the cake. I remember one horrible moment when fighting Steve Fox; I was tossed up in the air at the beginning of the match, and that was it! I might as well just of placed my controller down because there was nothing I could do to stop; the well practiced “1 juggle wonder” that would guarantee a KO once your opponent has been lifted from the ground. Fair play to the guy, but doesn’t this just make about 90% or the remaining moves just pointless and unnecessary to learn? My personal opinion is that no juggle should take more than half of your life bar.
Rage doesn’t really help either, the sense of injustice is far too large to just ignore. I don’t see why Namco should give an advantage to those players in a weaker position. Sorry bud, if you put yourself into this mess then it’s up to you to get out of it, is my motto. What makes things worse is when these huge juggles and rage combine, and then you really are done for!
I would lie if I said that I didn’t enjoy the game play, it is fun, but it has flaws that simply make it the worst Tekken, game play wise excluding Tekken 4 and 1, for their time anyway.
