It depends on what opponent's you face. If you're facing someone of the same rank, it'll take 3 consecutive wins to promote.

The formula for the amount of promotion points you receive is slightly different in Tekken 6. You receive a bit more from ranks further away than in Tekken 5.

I think the colour match is fine, in fact I like it. It wouldn't be right if they used different colours. Besides, you only see it when you promote so it's not like you'll see it that often.
