I think it is perfectly fine for him to use other research data to supplement the poll results as well. Just b/c the poll is open to the world doesn't mean the whole world is voting. Not every Tekken fan has voted on this. I'm sure there are plenty of casual fans who don't know about the poll or that there is even going to be a T X SF. It's probably hard for some people who are registered users on a Tekken fan board to understand this but it's completely plausible that there are plenty of casual fans that are oblivious to the whole situation. He wants to know what they think, b/c a sale is a sale whether it comes from a die-hard or casual fan of the series.

That said, even if it's just the core base that's voting on this poll (which I highly doubt), the fact that characters who he deemed unpopular are winning shows that there are is a lot more interest in them than he previously thought. And I definitely think that the Tekken team should take this newly found information and use it to explore some potential untapped possibilities. And really, the popularity argument went out the window the minute Ganyru came back and stayed despite still remaining unpopular.
