*randomly drops into the thread, doesn't read anything*

So, as I've noticed (correctly, hopefully) everyone here is totally playing Operation Raccoon city.
What are your opinions on the game?

I haven't been able to play it (though I would like to try), but based on what I've seen... It's awful. xD
It just seems very, very random. At first glance I though it was a chest-high wall simulator (some type of Gears of War clone) but it really isn't... It is sorta similar, but it seems to actually rely less on the walls, especially once the zombies are introduced.

What I dislike about the game is the fact that it seems insanely buggy (at least the co-op let's play I've been watching). More so, the whole sound is very peculiar. The voice acting is very... Average. A lot of the characters seem to suffer from the Batman syndrome, lol. The soundtrack and the sounds in general are very weird, like the "robo duck" quacking as a new map is about to start (the countdown timer).
The storyline, both because of the plot itself (and plot progression) and hilariously bad cinematics, is quite lackluster.
It's so random at times; Also, it is very cheesy. (one of the moments in the last mission: "Hi there!" *fires of rocket*)

The gameplay itself, IMO, is just very generic, slow-paced and uneventful.

I guess the game can be fun, but to be honest - It's just the co-op aspect of it. Again, I don't want to have any final judgements based solely on watching a let's play, but the game only seems to be good in a trail-wreck kind of way.

IMO. :)

I don't wan't to post another negative review of ORC or I'm gonna get a law suit. Basically in alot of ways it's a let down but in other ways it's quite original and refreshing. I agree with alot of your criticisms Xykon.

In simple terms it's not like Resident Evil 4 + 5 with a long story/puzzle element.
The wolfpack unit carries out like 8 missions and yes they suffer from batman syndrome.

There's still alot to like. It's a unique perspective on events from Resident Evil 2 and 3. All based around the outbreak timeline.
There's also Vector = nuff said.
I think the masks contribute to the sound of the voice. It's enough to keep you interested but if you're expecting another Resident Evil 5 - go home and be a family man.

Well, to start with, I don't like the RE series.
Like, at all.

However, simply by seeing the game (and knowing what the original series is like) I expected the reaction from the fans to be negative.
Cuz they are, you know, fans. Hard people to please.

Yeah, nice that you mentioned it, I forgot that part: A different perspective is cool.

Well, obviously, the masks have an impact on the voices; So, you can say that it was a bad design choice to give them masks. Then again, if you look at things realistically, the masks are there to protect them, right?

It's not like they can get infected or any- Oh wait.
Well, yeah, but Leon also wears a ma- Ooooh.

So, while it makes sense regarding the realism (which itself is sorta absurd), having your characters sound awful for the cost of "immersion" may not be worth it.

I see that a lot of people like Vector. Why is this? How is he different from the other characters?
Does he appear in the other games as well?

It's suggested in his back story that he was trained by Hunk (from the 4th survivor game on Resident Evil 2) - He was on the cut scene involving William Birkin with the G virus sample. Kind of looks like an early tekken G/Force Unit. I think I chose him straight off the bat because he was wearing a hooded top, I think that was the deciding factor on my first impression. (Stupid I know) The best thing about vector is his personal skills which lend themselves to stealth. He's a recon. unit so he has to take point/sneak behind enemy lines for subterfuge. His most popular skill is his stealth camoflage. You may have noticed the kind of pentagram mesh on his clothing. It's supposed to be like a light refracting polymer or fibrous material - Hence the name - Vector. No-one confirmed it but I think his voice acting is done by Rorschack - Watchmen.

Masks, I guess if you have thermal vision or whatever I can get on board and I see your point from an infection point of view. However I think for a marksmen you don't want to inhibit your vision. Too much rubber and leather I guess.

I used Belway alot. He seems like the demo expert from the ghetto or something. His use of expletives is amusing.

The cutscene with claire popping up - Just annoys me. I like to snipe her for being so lazy between code veronica and for coining redfield phrases poorly. Chris was the master of puns.

'Looks like we got to the... ROOT... of the problem'
' He's... SLEEPING... with the ultimate failure'
Resident Evil characters should always say something corny before taking out a boss. It's like the throw back/homage to Jaws. "Smile you son of a...'

I don't think RE fans are especially hard to please. I think resident evil 4 onwards weren't what I was expecting having played every resident evil game there is but they offered everything I needed. Mercenaries on RE4 for instance was alot of fun. I really enjoyed earning the 'hand cannon'
If you think back to the days of Resident Evil 1 and compare it to the current format there's always gonna be improvements and changes. Sometimes it's for the better other times you feel like they've missed something you cared for. I think without Resident Evil the landscape of survival games would be very different.

My two cents:

RE:ORC was directed more towards longtime fans(surprisingly), mostly because the is a plethora of references to old games in it, whether that is characters or events. One of the things that brought it down the most was because it was so hard to explain at some points people new to it didn't understand.

As for voice acting. The voices of the main characters was kind of boring, yet fitting. Mostly there lines were boring. One thing people liked about the series was the connection with characters. Now since this game is 4 player co-op with 6 different characters the empty shell effect comes in. Where as your character is just a means to shoot people and anything else about them is in a one to two paragraph biography under there picture in character select.

Weapons are generic and forgettable unless you get a RE specific one that has been in other games. Abilities are pretty cool yet short lived.

As for gameplay the Ai is dumb and can surprisingly take a large amount of bullets, without showing any kind of pain. Shooting and aiming is pretty good and melee is fun as all hell. People had a lot of trouble with cover, but I didn't at all. The most painful thing though in my opinion is the fact that the "A" or "Cross (X)"
does like 5 different things such as picking up your teammate and picking up weapons. you can see my dilemma when a team member dies on a pile of dead peoples weapons.

I know what you are saying "Well LD, what DOES this game do to make it worth buying?"
Honestly I don't know its just fun to play with your friends. If you played any of the other games, it's a bonus because a lot of the characters come back to make an appearance. Killing zombies with your friends is pretty fun as well and the online isn't that bad.

As for Vector he just looks awesome, and he's a badass. He's Hunk's pupil which gives him more rep.
Hunk is a badass Umbrella Corp Soldier from the second one and he just destroy's everyone.

@Riki
Oh, so he is sorta important, I guess.
Well, yeah, the whole "I have camouflage" thing was apparent; Actually, that is a rather silly issue the game has: You just go invis, bypass all the enemies, go to the checkpoint and forward the progress of the mission. lol.

Haha, I get the hoodie like, though, all of the characters look nice.

Obviously, the female character (Lupe was it?) has latex pants to highlight her ass, mild cleave and no full-head mask. Typical.

Belway (the "big dude", right?) is cool too; All of the characters are cool, though, all of them in a same sorta way.

Yeah, that's the cutscene. I was like "REALLY?" when I saw that.

Well, there is no doubt that RE is a big deal regarding video game history and the survival horror genre. I just don't really like it. :D
This game, however, is just a totally different approach. It's a co-op "tactical" shooter; It has no survival and no horror elements - it is basically some kind of 3rd person L4D.
Some may like this, some not.
Again, based on what I've seen so far, I dislike it because it isn't exactly well made and it isn't "tasteful", not because of the genre itself.

@LD
I get your point, but my point is that it's not that hard to make a chaotic and fun co-op game; Using an unoriginal IP and a bunch of references from the series doesn't exactly make it good.

:ho

@General Hoodie convo:

Yeah, I guess that was why I chose him right off the bat too xD That hoodie seemed to be one of those 'criteria' that I was looking for, and he looked badass and all that, what with being HUNK's protègè and all. xD

LMFAO bypass xD I often use the camo for stealth killing Spec Ops though xD
(Camo > Sprint to the group of morons > Melee > Enemy staggers > Brutal Kill them one by one)
But then I have to run to the nearest cover if it starts to come off.... >_>

Xykon The Lich wrote:Obviously, the female character (Lupe was it?) has latex pants to highlight her ***, mild cleave and no full-head mask. Typical.

It's Lupo, and yeah, she's good too. Her active skills either give you unlimited ammo, incendiary shots, or negate a few hits. (Negates 5 at max.)

Xykon The Lich wrote:Belway (the "big dude", right?) is cool too; All of the characters are cool, though, all of them in a same sorta way.

Beltway rocks, too. He can utilize trip mines and his Brutal Kill even uses grenades... WITHOUT using up your in-game supply. Genius.

Anyway, there's supposed to be some more text here but I can't remember what they're supposed to be. Stupid Chrome crashing before I could post. And then it restores, leaving the text box blank. I need to get Rockmelt.

lol, so I "finished" the game (the let's play I was watching) and I have to say that I just laughed my ass off - at how bad it was.

First, the "interactive" cutscene where you choose whether you kill or spare Leon - What the hell? The tone, the speed, the dialog... The fact that Claire or whatever is a foot away on a higher wall, the fact that Leon is apparently wounded...

THEN, suddenly, depending on what you've chosen, you are in a arena like fight against Leon/with Leon (I guess?)! Sure, the fact that you can face against your friends if they chose differently is cool, but wtf? Suddenly he is healthy? Suddenly he has a gun? Suddenly all of the people are set up in a versus style deathmatch?

THEN, after shooting Leon with like 150 bullets and 5 grenades, he dies.
Then Vector kills Claire and delivering a few idiotic lines of dialog.
Then the game ends.
Wtf?

No real boss battle + the whole thing we have instead is, as I previously described, just utterly moronic; No climax; No big final cutscene; "No nothing!"

Then, in true n00b style, like a hour long stream of credits.

wtf is this I don't even know.

The guys playing made a fitting comment when they saw one of the companies involved in the making of this game, "Just Cause": "lol, we decided to make this shitty game just cause."

I like your perspective Xykon.

I was watching some old Wesker cutscenes from Code Veronica last night. He mentions that his men have taken 'Steve'. I thought that could be the boss for the melee dude Jake on Re6 on the trailer. Just a thought.

I want to know more about that boss Sherry Birkin and Wesker Jr dude were running from. I see, yeah it's good Steve won't be coming back. It's just the boss I'm talking about looked alot like Steve's mutation. I'd like to push them both off a bridge. What was the name of that boss in the remake? Was it Emma or Emily? or Angela?... I was trying to remember when I was telling Deebo about it.

I was telling him about disposing of corpses/defense items/super zombies.
Richard is classic in that game. Always getting killed by something.

That is funny. XD

I played roughly the first half of ORC on Veteran with DevilBillyKazama last night. He leveled up to 80 and I got to 70. I've played online cooperatively with total strangers before (even missed a squad request :S) but this was the first time I played with one of my ps3 friends. Not only is the guy great on Tekken he's also really good on Resident Evil. It was alot of fun and we really made Nemesis seem like a pushover :D

That Red Captain character - Hunk's peon body double? We shot him right up. Good and real proper.
