Street Fighter X Tekken DLC controversy

Postby Redgohan147 » Sat Mar 17, 2012 3:21 pm

What are your guys thoughts on this personally I'm rather upset that capcom would do this. First the Umvc3 situation and now this why should I pay for characters I technically already have.

Put it this way: lets say you bought an action figure from the store, its still in the box, you open it and get a piece of the action figure your happy until you notice a lock with a coin slot keeping the rest of the accessories locked until you put 2 quatres in the slot its simply ridiculous [facepalm]

If this was only coded on a Blu-Ray disk no-one would've ever seen this coming. :noworries

They do benefit from this, they get to keep the talk about their games going with the extra characters in the foreseeable future.

My thoughts? I've bought different versions of same games in the past -think how much of a rip-off that sounds- so I'm not mad at paying a bit for a bag of new characters, even if they're already on the disc.

yeah but some of us have a tight budget to go by. I would rather want them to be unlockable characters through the game what ever happen to those days [facepalm]

Yeah, just use the edit button next time.

I've got a tight budget to go by as well. Just don't buy overhyped stuff like this full priced at launch if you know the DLC is coming. :P

If DLC can avoid the "Super Arcade Version", then fine.

But having to spend more to get the game completed to the Vita owners? I'm not sure.
Althought, you could always say that the roster is already big as it is and it's better than having to buy another version and so on.
Whatever. It's not a big problem.
"Sebastian ... can't you do better than that?

There's something that bothers me about not having a disc update though. Fast forward ten years and you buy this game (probably used). Then you think about all the additional content the game used to have for users to purchase and use. You want some of that too, so you go to the store, only to find out the services have been cut and therefore you will never get the goodies yourself. Now how sad is that?

A complete experience is one of the reasons I root for disc updates. Now that I think about it, this whole disc locked content is shit in the long run.

New costumes, gems, patches and more coming to Street Fighter X Tekken

Up first on April 3 are Swap Costumes that take the "alternate costume" DLC idea one step further - instead of offering basic alts, these outfits cross the fashion line by dressing SF characters as Tekken characters and vice versa. See Raven dress as Guy, Cammy as King and uh, Kuma as R. Mika...(?)

Swap Costumes are available for $1.00 (80 Microsoft Points) each, or if you wanna dive in for the whole assortment you can pick up the Street Fighter or Tekken collection packs for $13.00 (1040 MSP) each - buying one pack saves $6.00, grabbing both saves $12.00. April 3 also brings three free color packs, each containing four new additions to the palette for added customization options. Topping off the April 3 additions are three new quick combos, making for a total of five pre-programmed attack patterns. While spamming these pre-set combos is tempting, don't forget each use saps some of your Cross Gauge!

Shortly after those items arrive, look for a free tournament support title update that will add a new and faster way to select your gems from the versus screen via a dial system. We'll actually run a live stream this Monday at 4pm PT to show off this update, so head to our Twitch TV page for details. The tournament update will also include improvements to the online sound issues discussed in Ayano-san's earlier blog.

Looking just a few more weeks beyond the tournament support addition, the next big wave is a massive selection of free content delivered as a title update. This includes three new Assist Gem packs and six new Boost Gem packs, which add over 60 gems to the selection pool. This sizable infusion of new gems exponentially increases the customization options for every player, so we should see some interesting new loadouts once this DLC arrives. To that point, we're also tossing in three more gem slots per character in which you can save your preferred loadouts. Finally, this update comes complete with a free replay analyzer, which enables you to dissect each fighters' vital statistics.

The biggest additions come soon after the PlayStation Vita version launches later this year - the 12 characters debuting on Vita will come to consoles as a $20.00 (1600 MSP) bundle. I know many were worried past character pricing would push the cost of this update sky high, so I'm happy to say Blanka, Sakura, Guy, Cody, Elena, Dudley, Alisa, Bryan, Christie, Jack, Lars and Lei will not break the bank.

One additional note - the dev team is also already working on solutions to the infinite combos currently making the rounds on YouTube, and will have them patched up once these other updates are out the door.

I know this was a massive wall of text, so for further clarity, here's everything we discussed above. This all begins on April 3 with Swap Costumes, color packs and quick combos, and then rolls out over the next several weeks:

FREE
Nine new gem packs totaling 60+ new gems
Replay analyzer
Tournament support for gem selection
Three new quick combo pre-sets
Three additional gem loadout slots
Three new color packs with four colors each

PAID
Swap Costumes - $1.00 (80 MSP) each or in two $13.00 (1040 MSP) Street Fighter and/or Tekken packs
DLC characters - $20.00 (1600 MSP) for all 12 new fighters

Not this again.

Who gives a **** where your DLC chars are stored? You're not paying for them when you buy the game, you're paying for the initial roster. Why is that so hard to understand for some people? Why does it matter if they're stored there to make buying them faster?

That said. DLC characters are a retarded idea and should be banned.

Forgot to mention that having the chars on the disc allows you to play VS them online even if you dont buy them.

Now quit whining. The price of the disc doesnt include the DLC and you should know that. You'd be better off complaining about their existence in the first place.

In recent news, Capcom reqouests that you snitch to them, in order to drop some banhammers on those who hacked the game. Kind of funny, that they are focusing on this rather than fixing the game.

The only problem I have is the wait but I still completely understand it. They want to use the DLC characters to make the adverts for the Vita version different from the PS3/360 versions. I do hope they have some cinematic trailers for these characters, if for nothing else but hype. Considering the King/Marduk vs Hugo/Poison trailer they can even go up against characters already playable rather than their rivals (I'd quite like to see Elena/Dudley Vs Hwoarang/Steve as a trailer).

Well $20 for 12 characters isn't nearly bad as $10 for the 2 DLC characters in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Still bad, since you are paying for content that's already on the disc though. On-disc DLC should always be free, because it's like you're paying for the same thing twice, since you already paid for the game.

Chances are that people are still going to pay the $20 for the DLC, despite their outrage towards Capcom.

Of course. After the heat has died down people feel like getting more fun out of their purchased game. It's the same kind of situation as it was pre-launch of this game.

yes but the hackers wont......they'll do every possible way to milk out their purchase, which may be the reason of Capcom to make the PC version's DLC not on the disc

Well, I know I am. Just because I want all the characters and not to mention, there's a few of them that I really want. What they did with these DLC characters is stupid, but it still won't stop me from buying them.
